What is the difference between therapy and adaptive riding?
The focus of Adaptive Riding lessons is for individuals with special needs to learn how to ride horses. The certified instructors are trained in utilizing adaptive equipment and techniques to facilitate learning how to ride in a safe, effective manner. Students experience many therapeutic benefits through learning horsemanship skills and from horseback riding itself. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy are conducted by licensed therapists. The medical-based treatment aims to meet functional goals and increase independence in everyday skills.
How much does it cost?
The fee for adaptive riding is $50.00 per lesson. Scholarships through Kids & Horses are available for those in financial need. For physical therapy and occupational therapy services, price varies depending on one’s health insurance. Medicaid typically covers 100% of the cost.
Other insurances such as Hometown Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Prominence typically require co-pays and cover the rest after deductibles have been met. Out-of- Network insurance plans may be able to be billed out-of- network. Some insurance plans do not cover therapy services or have limitations.
